WhatsUp!
I’m up for another hotel buffet! That’s right, another hotel
buffet only means another extra calories to gain (more swimming time for me);
but this time is something I never experience before and would not want to miss,
The Supreme Brunch at Satoo in Shangrila Hotel Jakarta.
For those avid buffet buffs should know by now how Satoo
restaurant is associated for its high quality buffet. I personally am a big fan
of their buffet brunch. Not only that the food is always delicious but also the
varieties the menus; from Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Western, Italian to local
flavors offered definitely makes the belly happy.
Recently Shangrila Hotel Jakarta offers ‘Supreme Brunch’ on
every first Sunday of the month. Supreme Brunch consists of the two best buffet
venues of the hotel; Satoo restaurant and Shang Palace priced at IDR
408K_++/pax for adult and IDR 204++/pax for children.
SATOO
SHANG PALACE
Being that it is
‘Supreme’, I am concluding that the feasting would be as ‘Supreme’ as it is
promised.
Setting apart from the usual buffet the hotel offers on any
given day, the Supreme brunch has more than just food stations , they have :
“Very Important Kids”
Station. Offering a range of fun food especially created for our young
guests including animal face burger, watermelon pizza, smiley potato croquets, and
funny sandwiches and cupcakes.
XXL carving Station
featuring roasted whole beef leg, chicken, lamb, prime rib, assorted fish and
ham
Tempura Station
serves selection of seafood and vegetables deep fried to perfection
Thai Corner,
presenting a selection of Thailand specialties such as Massaman curry, spring
rolls, green curry, fresh Thai beef salad, grilled Thai style chicken wings and
mackerel
Virgin Mary Station,
where guest can create their favorite virgin mary mixed with their option of
spices. Bloody Mary (alcoholic version) also available in a la carte option
Juice Station, “create
your own” refreshing Sunday juice with
the extensive option of fresh fruit available
Ice Tea Station,
where guests can choose their own fruit to be infused in their tea.
So much to feast, such limited tummy space, I need to pick
wisely what to eat. Here are some of the highlights:
They have noodle station where you can have noodle soup or pasta as your choice
Pasta stalls
The pasta stalls have a good range of pasta sauce (whatever
your heart desire really), what delighted me the most were the ravioli and
black squid ink fettuccini though the Aglio Olio pasta was the most recommended
which actually lived up to its expectations; the fresh clams and medium prawn
sized gave the extra kick my taste buds needed. Not forgetting my curiosity on
the black squid fettuccini, it actually had a similar textures and taste of a
regular fettuccini but what made it special was the tomato based sauce that
blended well with the black squid ink that made it like a regular fettuccini
dish.
Sushi , sashimi, and
seafood stalls,
With its wide selections of fresh seafood; Ahi tuna,
lobsters, king crabs, salmons, tunas and so on and so forth it’s so hard to
choose (so I had to pick one of each, all wise decisions has flown out the
window!)
Another major highlight of the supreme buffet is their
Indian cuisine section, very satisfying! I love Indian food and this section
truly satisfies me! The prata bread was to die for and feasting it with Tikka
Masala (roasted chunks of chicken tikka in a spicy sauce) and the tofu eggplant
curry made it even more special.
Moving to the Chinese section, I especially loved the Peking
duck station; duck was roasted perfectly and the duck skin was crisp and tasty,
I kept going back for as it was just simply delicious!
Dessert
You simply need to make space for desserts no matter how
full you are from the savory food. The creative arrays of dessert cakes,
colorful macaroons and ice creams are just irresistible.
Shang Palace
I know the tummy is screaming ‘Stop eating!’ but I just had
to try the other buffet place, The Shang Palace. From the name and its Chinese
themed décor of red and black oriental ornaments, it is quite obvious that it
is a Chinese restaurant; more specifically it serves Cantonese style cooking
(I’m imagining Hong Kong food). For obvious reason, Cantonese food is well
known for its Dim Sum, mostly prepared as small bite-sized portions of food
traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates.
DIM SUM
It is simply delicious! Sunday morning breakfast with
families would definitely perfect to dine in this place. What stood out from
the Dim Sum menu was the fried shrimp dumplings dipped in mayonnaise sauce that
is simply divine’ the shrimps are fresh and cooked just right and the crispy
skin is moist.
Do remember to come to these buffet places with empty
tummies, so worth the price with the ‘Supreme’ varities and exquisite menus
from the Supreme Brunch. Mark your calendar for this special brunch (you sure
don’t want to miss it) and have a good feast!
