Good bye Shang Palace and hello JIA!
A very much anticipated revamp has finally arrived! Jia has
overtaken the old beloved restaurant, Shang Palace, and turned it into a
contemporary Chinese food restaurant. ‘Jia’ means ‘One’ in Chinese definition
and in living up to its name, the restaurant is gearing towards to be the
leading Chinese food in Jakarta.
Wooden panel, brick walls and impressive flooring with black
and gold themed elevates the regal yet cozy atmosphere. Jia has six private
dining areas that would easily accommodate up to 120 people combined and 100
people in the main dining area. A Perfect restaurant for family gatherings,
events or meeting up with old friends over Chinese comfort food.
Jia Chinese restaurant is lead under the skilled leadership
of executive Chinese chef Christopher Chai who has been in the business for
almost two decades. I know I am in good hands walking in to the restaurant
expecting nothing less that spectacular feast.
The much celebrated signature dish of the restaurant is the
Beijing Peking duck that in a whole size cost IDR 398K and half size IDR 218K.
Now, I have tried Beijing Peking duck before and that was in Beijing where it
was supposedly made known for so I had tried ‘The’ Beijing Peking duck. In
comparison at Jia I would have to say it successfully followed suit in taste
and texture; a thin layer of crispy duck skin that has sought after crack sound
as the server cut through the duck. Meat is tender and juicy and comes with
thick Hoisin sauce and fresh cut spring union and cucumbers to be put together
in a wrap with steamed pancakes. In certain time you can actually see the chef
doing live cooking show preparing the Peking Duck.Love it!

The list I have provided above is the three appetizer menu
you simply have to order and try. Crispy fried beef in honey sauce is a winning
dish for me! The interesting texture of crispy thin layers of beef that is deep
fried yet has smooth and texture with that honey sauce is a winning combination
indeed.

I came back for the second time to Jia to complete my blog by trying this Lan Zhou La Mian Noodle soup with beef shank and
La Mian noodle soup with xiao long bao, the portions came in huge that it would
be good to be shared with two or three people per portion. The beef was tender
and perfectly cook with bold flavor, the ultimate comfort food.

Jia Restaurant serves a la carte Chinese menu as well as Dim
Sum. A good Dim Sum restaurants are hard to come back in Jakarta and such good news that the Dim Sum at
Jia is pleasantly tasty. The Shu Mai and deep fried wontons with crab paste and
mayonnaise are delicious! I have to admit that I actually like the Dim Sum more
than the a la carte menu (shhh but don’t tell anyone)

By the end of the meal, as you can have guessed by the
pictures, my belly was about to burst into fireworks of awesomeness, but wait,
let’s not forget the Desserts! Not helping that the desserts looked cute… I shall
not resist.
The Red bean paste pancake has a light skin and it was
crispy with the paste melted in the mouth as I gobbled it all up. The custard
egg yolk bun was to die for and that pretty swan with almond sauce made my
heart stop (well, pretty darn close).
